Photoshop Collage
My know thyself expresses the real me; athletic, free spirited, and close to nature. Using photoshop I created a collage of myself doing various activites such as fishing, playing basketball and softball. Nature especially is what makes me who I am. Nothing is more beautiful than the wonders and magic nature has to offer us. I believe that if everyone can learn to appreciate the world around them, they too will notice these wonders.

Block Print
Culture is all around us. We see it in our neighbors, in the community, and in our own home. I'm caught between two different cultures; that of my Mexican side and Native American ancestry. In my block print I wanted to show this relationship. So, I created a Dia de Los Muertos inpression of a woman. Roses sit in her hair and a sugar skull can be made out in the background. In her hair their is a single feather which represents her native heritage. My artist inspiration comes from Frida Kahlo and Goergia O'keefe.

Mixed Media
MIAD
For mixed media piece, I wanted to portray mother nature in a nontraditional way. My found objects included butterflies, beads, moss, fake flowers, styrofoam ball and birds, and fake leaves. Each of these objects represented a different season. Mother nature herslef is painted blue creating the allusion of ocean skin and green hair like the grass or sea weed. Over her mouth is a butterfly, which symbolizes the beauty that is often quick to be silenced by those who do not wish to appreciate it.

Self Portrait
My inspiration came from Salvador Dali's painting of "Madame Matisse." I really liked his use of contrasting colors to evoke emotion. I tiled my piece "Happy" because of my bright personality and how this paticular emotion has many ways of expressing itself. I chose specific colors because I believe that happiness is expressed in an array of colors and it's different for everybody.

Industrial V.s Organic
For my sculpture piece, I wanted to make something simple yet with a natural form that could be used as a household decor. My first thought was to make something around the ligns of a fruit bowl. The creativity was there but the complexity of pulling off such a piece stood in the way. Instead I made my sclupture out to be like sea urchins using nails and styrofoam to construct the basic shape and design.

Sacred Vessel
In my opinion, the female body is the very definition of life and creation. With childbirth comes new life and prosperity. For my sculpture I created a torso that was split down the middle, which made it look like two seperate pieces. I applied a simple white base coat then added red, orange, and yellow acrylic paint. One side consisted of different intricate designs while the other side was simply one color. Using warm colors creates a sense of happiness. I had no artist inspiration for this paticular work.

Choice Piece
I decided to do a portrait of a guinea pig because animal portraits are something that I've never done before. And of course guinea pigs are the cutest things ever and I just so happen to have one as a pet. Multiple photos were taken ahead of time in which lighting and positioning were the main focus. I used water color mainly for the use of blending and creating textured fur. My artist inspiration came from a local artist that I mentioned in my comparative study named, Anita Burgermeister.
